Flavio Cobolli is set to play the biggest match of his career as he prepares to face Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon 2025. After defeating Marin Cilic in four sets, the 22nd-seeded Italian sat down with Tennis Channel to reflect on his breakthrough run and share his excitement about facing one of his childhood heroes.

A breakthrough moment for the young Italian

Cobolli’s journey to the last eight has been nothing short of remarkable. The 23-year-old has never advanced this far in a Grand Slam before, and his victory over Cilic—6-4, 6-4, 6-7(4), 7-6(3)—was a display of composure and confidence. Speaking after the match, Cobolli said, “This is a day I’ll never forget. I played a really good match and believed from the first point that I could win.”

His Wimbledon campaign has been filled with challenges off the court as well. Cobolli had to move out of his original accommodation mid-tournament due to a rental issue, but he took it in stride. “I had some problems with my first house, but now I found a great solution,” he said. “I slept well, and I’m in good shape.”

Facing Djokovic with admiration and ambition

Cobolli didn’t hide his admiration for Djokovic, calling him his idol and expressing both excitement and nerves about their upcoming clash. “It’s a dream to play against Novak on Centre Court,” he said. “I’ve watched him win so many times. Now I get to be on the other side of the net.”

Despite the daunting task ahead, Cobolli is embracing the opportunity. “I know it will be tough, but I’m ready to give everything. I want to enjoy the moment and learn from it.”
