Pliskova triumphs in Doha

Karolina Pliskova ended a very complicated week in the best possible way: with a title!

The Czech had an intense three days (16th-18th) in Doha to win four matches and the title after playing twice on the 17th. In the final, Karolina faced Caroline Wozniacki that was not at her best after also enduring the same tour de force.

In the contest against the Dane, Pliskova was helped by a strong start (4-0) that gave her the first set without much struggle. The second set was much more even: Wozniacki was rock solid on her serve in the first three games (won all of them at love) while Pliskova had to battle a bit on her serve. Eventually, the Dane started to become less “perfect” on her serve to concede the decisive break in the last game. Pliskova won the final 6-3 6-4.

It’s a great start of the year. PLISKOVA

Karolina was elated with her start of the year. The Czech has won already two titles in 2017 (Brisbane and Doha), and she is consolidating her 3rd place in the rankings. Actually, if she keeps on winning and Kerber doesn’t bounce back from a terrible start of the season, the Czech has a shot at becoming the world no.2.

After the match, Karolina commented

“I think I’m having a great start to the year, which is always important. Beating players like Cibulkova and Wozniacki is something amazing. I’ve never beat them before, but I was trying really hard this week, so I’m really happy with my wins here.”

Both Wozniacki and Pliskova will go and compete in Dubai.
