Goffin ends Dimitrov’s run in Rotterdam

Finally, David Goffin beats Grigor Dimitrov!

The Belgian didn’t have great memories against Grigor during the last month as he lost to the Bulgarian in both the quarters in Melbourne and the final in Sofia. David had Dimitrov on his way also in the quarters in Rotterdam, but this time he found the solution to beat his “nemesis.”

After winning the opening set, Goffin lost five consecutive games to drop the second set 6-1 (from 1-1 to 1-6). Everything looked set for another heartbreaker for the Belgian, but eventually, he conquered a crucial break in the second game of the decider to clinch a decisive 3-0 lead. Probably the most important game was the 5th when Goffin managed to save two consecutive break points (15-40). Losing that game would have reopened the match, but eventually, it was the Belgian to win the contest 6-4 1-6 6-3 after scoring just 2 points more than his opponent (100 vs. 98).

Being aggressive was the key. GOFFIN

After the match, David explained how he defeated Dimitrov

“It was an amazing match, from the first point until the last, with great intensity. I decided to be really aggressive from the first ball. That was the key, to show him I was ready to be aggressive. He was really solid in the second set, so it was hard to maintain that level, but in the end I found my best tennis to finish the match.”

The semi against Herbert

David will play a surprising Pierre-Hugues Herbert in the semi-final. Ranked no. 109, the Frenchman is coming straight from the semi-finals. He upset Dominic Thiem in the quarters 6-4 7-6 (3). David and Pierre-Hugues have never played each other. The Belgian is the big favorite to reach the final.
