Jasmine Paolini’s Wimbledon 2025 campaign came to an abrupt end as she suffered a second-round defeat to Russia’s Kamilla Rakhimova in a tightly contested three-set match. The Italian fourth seed, who reached the final just a year ago, was unable to maintain her rhythm and fell 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 on Court Three.
Speaking candidly after the match, Paolini reflected on her performance with a mix of disappointment and self-awareness. “It was a tough one. I’m still thinking about the second set. I could do much better. I had many, many chances, I did some stupid mistakes,” she said. “I need to stay there mentally much better. My attention was going up and down all the time. I don’t know why”.
The match was marked by fluctuating momentum, with Paolini taking the first set before Rakhimova found her footing and began dictating play. Despite several opportunities to regain control, Paolini struggled to stay mentally engaged, a factor she acknowledged as pivotal in the outcome.
The loss adds to a string of early exits for top seeds at this year’s tournament, with Paolini joining Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, and Zheng Qinwen among those eliminated in the opening rounds. For Paolini, the defeat underscores the challenges of maintaining focus and consistency at the highest level of competition.
Looking ahead, she expressed a desire to reset and refocus for the remainder of the season. “If I want to compete at this level I have to be focused all the time, not like I was today,” she said. With her sights set on upcoming tournaments, Paolini remains determined to learn from this experience and return stronger.
