THAT WAS BAD. Germany got ballistic after anthem from Nazi-era was sung at Fed Cup in the US

The onset of the Fed Cup tie between the USA and Germany looked very promising. The contest was scheduled in the Hawaii, and all players were in the right mood to be there.

Then something truly amazing happened during the open ceremony as the singer was performing a German anthem from the second world war. The players and some German fans tried to “cover” the mistake.

It was the biggest disrespect in my life. PETKOVIC

Andrea commented

“I thought it was the epitome of ignorance, and I’ve never felt more disrespected in my whole life, let alone in Fed Cup, and I’ve played Fed Cup for 13 years now, and it is the worst thing that has ever happened to me,”

The apology from USTA

USTA immediately apologized for the mistake to release the following statement

“The USTA extends its sincerest apologies to the German Fed Cup team and all of its fans for the performance of an outdated national anthem prior to today’s Fed Cup competition.

In no way did we mean any disrespect. This mistake will not occur again, and the correct anthem will be performed for the remainder of this first-round tie.”
