Zverev reaches the final in Montpellier

Sascha Zverev had a tricky (but still very good) run in Montpellier. The German reaches the final in France after he conceded a set in all the matches he has played.

In the semifinal, Zverev had to dig deep against the world no.14 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Sascha lost the first set after he failed to convert a set point in the breaker. Then things looked extremely gloomy for the German after he was broken in the very first game of the second set, but eventually, he regrouped to win the following four games (from 0-1 to 4-1) and clinch the set (6-2). The decider went to the photo finish, and it was only one break the difference between the two with Tsonga dropping his serve in the last game. Zverev won in 2 hours and 20 minutes and the result was 6-7 (6) 6-2 6-4.

It was a very tough match. ZVEREV

After the contest, Zverev commented

“I’m very happy to be in the final, first final of the year. Really good start to the year. It was a very tough match today as well. I think both of us played really well from the baseline and are very powerful. So hopefully it can be another high-level match tomorrow.”

The final vs. Gasquet

Zverev will face Richard Gasquet in the final. The Frenchman had a much easier task in the other semi-final against his compatriot Benoit Paire after he won 6-2 6-2 in just 68 minutes.

This is the first time that Sascha and Richard play each other.
