Bianca Andreescu in Toronto

Simona Halep one of the biggest ambassador for her country around the world. The former world no.1 has a huge fan base all over the globe and also in Canada where there is a big Romanian community.

Therefore, Simona is always feeling at home in Canada where she has won the Rogers Cup twice in 2016 and 2018. Unfortunately, in Toronto, the Romanian sensation had to withdraw with an injury during the quarters against Marie Bouzkova.

Andreescu’s Romanian origins

Bianca “took over” Simona’s fans because of her origins. In fact, even if Bianca was born in Ontario, both her parents are from Romania as they moved to Canada following a job offer received by her father Nicu. Later Bianca and her parents went temporary back to Romania where she started playing at the age of 7 before they moved back to Canada. Bianca speaks Romanian fluently.

Talking about being backed by the Romanians, Bianca commented:

“Romanians are everywhere. I’ve definitely got a lot of love from all the Romanian media, which is nice. It’s nice to have two fan bases, Canada and Romania.”

Andreescu reached the final in Toronto where she put her fans on fire, especially the Romanian ones.

She may face a huge hurdle in the final as Serena Williams is looming on the other side of the draw. If Bianca faces the American legend, she will have the full support of the local crowd.
