Emma Raducanu made a strong start to her Wimbledon 2025 journey with a straight-sets victory over 17-year-old compatriot Mimi Xu, winning 6-3, 6-3 on Court 1. The 22-year-old British No. 1 controlled the match from the outset, breaking Xu early in both sets and maintaining her composure throughout the 85-minute contest.

Xu, making her Grand Slam main draw debut, showed flashes of promise but struggled to match Raducanu’s consistency and precision. Raducanu’s serve proved especially effective, winning all 13 of her first-serve points in the opening set and keeping Xu under constant pressure.

Following the match, Raducanu shared her affection for the tournament in her on-court interview, calling Wimbledon “by far her favourite tournament.” Her next challenge will be a second-round clash against 2023 champion Marketa Vondrousova, setting the stage for a high-stakes encounter early in the draw.

Then with some humor she added: “Well I’m glad people were having fun today. I saw a champagne cork fly onto the court. I’m glad you guys are having a good time. Cheers to you”
