LIVE RANKINGS. Naomi Osaka back to world no.1 from Monday

Naomi Osaka back to the top of the world.

Naomi Osaka world no.1

Friday has been an interesting day for Naomi Osaka.

The Japanese sensation was opposed to her childhood idol Serena Williams and interesting enough she had a great 2-0 win-loss record against the American. Even more oddly, Serena wasn’t able to win more than 5 games per sets against Naomi in their previous encounters.

Things got rather different in Toronto as Serena was unstoppable against Naomi to win the match 6-3 6-4.

RANKING PROJECTION. Osaka back to world no.1

Even if Naomi lost to Serena, she is guaranteed to be back to be the world no.1 on Monday. In fact, Naomi has 6417 live ranking points; however, the current world no.1 Ashleigh Barty has 6256 live points and Karolina Pliskova (world no.3) 6185 points. Both Ashleigh and Karolina are already out from Toronto, and therefore there is no way for them to overtake Naomi by the end of this week.

Why will Serena Williams not be no.1?

The American is now in the semifinal in Toronto. However, she has no chances, for now, to dethrone Naomi Osaka from the top spot of the rankings. In fact, if the American legend wins the title, she will have only 4310 points.

What about the world no.1 rank after Cincinnati?

Naomi has not many points to defend in Cincinnati, where she lost in the first round last year to Maria Sakkari 6-3 7-6 (8). Therefore she has an excellent chance to retain the top spot of the rankings until the US Open where she will defend the title and 2000 points.
