Mingge Olivia Xu, known to many as Mimi, is quickly becoming one of the most exciting young talents in British tennis. Born on October 2, 2007, in Swansea, South Wales, Xu began playing tennis at the age of three at the Swansea Tennis and Squash Club. Her early passion and dedication led her to the National Tennis Academy in Loughborough and later to the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton, where she trains under coach Mathew James.

Xu’s game is defined by her versatility and composure. She has already made waves on the professional circuit, reaching a career-high WTA singles ranking of No. 318 and a doubles ranking of No. 256 in 2025. Her breakthrough came during the grass-court season, where she stunned top-seeded players and reached the quarterfinals at the Birmingham WTA 125 and the main draw of the Nottingham Open.

Off the court, Xu is known for her academic drive—she completed her Maths A-Level two years early—and her love for baking and playing the piano. Her parents, Wendy and Tony, originally from China, have supported her journey every step of the way. Wendy is retired, and Tony works as an engineer.

Though still in her teens, Xu has already competed in junior Grand Slam events, including a girls’ doubles final at Wimbledon and semifinal appearances at the US Open. Her calm demeanor, strategic mind, and growing confidence suggest she’s not just a rising star, but a player with the potential to shape the future of British tennis.
