Alexandra Eala delivered a commanding performance at the 2025 Eastbourne Open, sweeping past Ukraine’s Dayana Yastremska 6-1, 6-2 to secure a spot in the semifinals. The 20-year-old Filipina, who entered the main draw through qualifiers, showcased poise and precision on the grass court, breaking her opponent’s serve seven times and committing just 10 unforced errors.
In her post-match interview, Eala emphasized the importance of mental strength in her victory. “I came into this match with a clear head and a lot of confidence,” she said. “I knew I had to stay focused and not let the pressure get to me. That mindset really helped me stay in control.”
Eala’s composure was evident from the start. She raced through the first set in just over 30 minutes, using deep returns and smart shot placement to neutralize Yastremska’s power. Even when the Ukrainian tried to mount a comeback in the second set, Eala held firm, closing out the match in just over an hour.
This win marks Eala’s second semifinal appearance at a WTA event this season, following her breakout run at the Miami Open. With her confidence soaring and her grass-court game clicking, she now prepares to face France’s Varvara Gracheva in the next round—a rematch of their recent Nottingham clash, which Eala also won.
As she continues her rise on the WTA Tour, Eala’s performance in Eastbourne signals her growing maturity and readiness to compete at the highest level. Her next challenge could bring her one step closer to her first tour-level title and perhaps a deeper run at Wimbledon.
