Naomi Osaka is about to face her childhood idol Serena Williams in Toronto for a place in the semifinal.
This match will be very important for both. In fact, while for Naomi it has always been an honour to face Serena, on the other side the American is eager to put back their last match at the US Open when the 23-slam-champion lost her cool against the umpire.
Fortunately, that match didn’t put any tension between Serena and Naomi and the American has also revealed that after a while she also sent a text to the Japanese to apologize for her behavior at the Flushing Meadows.
The incredible record
Naomi leads Serena 2-0 in head to head matches. However, the most incredible thing is that the American legend has never managed to win more than 4 games in each set that they played each other. In fact, Osaka won 6-3 6-2 in the 1st round in Miami last year and 6-2 6-4 in the following US Open final.
Of course, we are talking about only 2 matches, but still, it’s incredible for Serena having such a negative record against a (then) upcoming player.
Serena eager to improve this record
During the press conference following her victorious match against Ekaterina Aleksandrova, Serena commented: “I’ve been actually looking forward to playing her for a while.” This will be interesting!
