Juan Lebron and Franco Stupaczuk defeated Javi Garrido and Diego Gil 7-6, 6-3 to go to the Premier Padel Valladolid P2 quarterfinals, but the victory wasn’t without controversy. Emotions ran high on the sidelines between the winning duo after they narrowly lost the first set in a dramatic tiebreak.
A heated argument between Lebron and Stupaczuk was caught on camera, with obvious annoyance leaking over despite their advantage. Raised words and heated gestures suggested that the dispute sprang from a misunderstanding that occurred during the tiebreak. Carlos Pozzoni, their coach, stepped in to try to defuse the tension and get the team back on track.
Surprisingly, the pair was able to comeback and win the second set. They broke early and kept control, ending the match 6-3 after refocusing. Despite being out of the ordinary, the event did not ruin their performance, and they are now moving on with momentum, albeit maybe with a few issues to work out off the court.
