Federer, Berdych to play the for the title in Madrid – Youtube Video

Great final in Madrid!

It’s not the usual Nadal – Djokovic, but Federer – Berdych, the best players on this slippery surface.

FEDERER – TIPSAREVIC 6-2 6-3

Janko is a very good player (world nr.8 is not that bad at all!), but he still struggle to produce an upset with the top 3 when they are in good form like he did in the quarters with an upset Novak.

Yesterday it was an easy one for the Swiss Maestro that blasted 8 aces and broke 3 times the Serb to close the match in only 67 minutes.

“It’s going to be a tough match,” said Federer. “Berdych is playing well himself. It’s quick conditions and he can be a big threat in the finals like that.

“Berdych got me in big matches in my career in Wimbledon and at the Olympics. I got him back at the same places,” Federer added. “Still I remember those losses vividly. I think that we match up pretty well against each other because of the shot-making.”

Talking about the controversial blue clay “I’m focused on what I’m doing this week,” said Federer. “I’m trying to play well and get as far as I can. I’ve been able to get on a roll. I’ve played better as the week went on under tough conditions, especially with some wind tonight. I’ve had a lot on the line before, it’s no different now.”

BERDYCH – DEL POTRO 7-6 (5) 7-6 (6)

This was a much closer encounter. There was practically nothing to divide the 2 players that at the end of the match scored the same amount of points (79 each).  Both players broke the other once per set making a good use of their ominous serve (Del Potro 6 aces, Berdych 15!).

But at the end, it was Tomas to win the match also due to his better composure toward  the end of the match. When the scoreline was 6 all in the final tiebreak Delpo blasted a would-be ace that was called out. The ball was out and the empire did a good job not to change opinion even if the Argentine was about vocal about that. Juan Martin couldn’t concentrate anymore and he lost the point after that and the match. Then Delpo didn’t shake hand with the empire.

“He was my toughest match of the week,” said Berdych. “I had that feeling from the start. But I was confident going in. I had my belief. I’m definitely happy with my the game that I’ve played here all week.”

Haed to Head is 10-4 for Roger that is also expected to win tomorrow.
