Federer and Nadal keep competing against each other

Federer and Nadal

The Rogers Cup has just started and there are are some interesting movements in the live rankings involving Federer, Nadal, and Tsitsipas.

Federer and Nadal’s projections

The Swiss Maestro decided not to compete in Montreal to rest his body in preparation of the ATP1000 in Cincinnati where he is hugely successful and the US Open. Roger missed also the Rogers Cup last year also with the bad memory of getting injured 2 years before in Montreal where he reached the final, but he wasn’t fully fit to win the last match against Zverev.

Since Roger has no points to defend, he still has 7460 points in the live rankings. On the other hand, the current world no.2, Rafael Nadal, has 7035 “live points” (7945-910) as he is defending his title in Toronto.

Therefore, in terms of live rankings, Federer is the world no.2, but if Rafa reaches the final, he will retain his world no.2 status as he will have 7545 points.

Tsitsipas’ projections

Stefanos is not in his best period. After the huge disappointment of losing in the opening round in Wimbledon, he had a decent run in DC where he lost in the semifinals after he had a match point against Nick Kyrgios. Things went south for him in Montreal where he lost in the opening match to Humbert Hukacz. Since he was defending 600 points i Canada, he lost 590 points (600-10) to go down 2 places in the live rankings and be the new world no.7. The Greek may lose another place if either Medvedev or Khachanov win the tournament in Montreal.
