Daniil Medvedev may have fallen short in the Halle Open final, but he didn’t lose his sense of humor. After Alexander Bublik stunned him with a 6-3, 7-6 victory to claim his second title at the tournament, Medvedev delivered a light-hearted message during the trophy ceremony that drew laughter from fans and players alike.
“Big congrats to you and your team,” Medvedev said to Bublik. “I hope you’re in Carlos’ draw at Wimbledon. Maybe we’ll have a sensation in the third or fourth round. Please, Carlos or Jannik’s draw.”
The Russian, who had previously beaten Bublik in all six of their past encounters, was gracious in defeat and acknowledged the Kazakh’s inspired performance on grass. Bublik had already made headlines earlier in the week by defeating World No. 1 Jannik Sinner and continued his fearless run through the draw.
Despite the loss, Medvedev’s run to the final marked a return to form, lifting him back into the ATP Top 10. With Wimbledon just around the corner, he’ll be looking to carry this momentum into the Grand Slam, where he has twice reached the semifinals.
As for Bublik, his unpredictable style and recent form make him a dangerous floater in the draw—just as Medvedev jokingly warned.
