The reason why Wawrinka and Tsonga quarrelled

Stan Wawrinka and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga stunned the audience in Melbourne at the end of the first set of their quarterfinal.

What happened?

Just out of the blue the two champions had a weird and childish discussion during the change-over that started after the Frenchman was talking to himself about a strange look given by Wawrinka.

Then Wawrinka said “You are looking at me! What did you say? It’s you that’s looking at me and talking to me.”

“I said nothing,” Tsonga replied.

Wawrinka then added “Did I look at you at all? It’s a tennis match. You’ve got to calm down, relax a bit, it’s a tennis match.”

“There are no problems,” Tsonga replied.

The reason of the quarrel

Apparently, the relationship between Stan and Jo-Wilfried went south just before the Davis Cup final in 2014 between Switzerland and France when Wawrinka was sort of offended that the French team was a bit too focussed on Federer. In fact, at that time, Stan commented

“It was important to show them that they were a little bit maybe too focused on Roger. Me, I did my job, I showed them that I’m not No 4 for nothing.”

Eventually, Wawrinka defeated Tsonga 7-6 (2) 6-4 6-3 to play his friend Roger Federer in the semi.

NOT GOING FORA BEER AFTER THAT?
