Naomi Osaka world no.1 in live rankings!

Naomi has a big chance to regain her world no.1 rank from next Monday

Naomi Osaka no.1

Naomi Osaka overtakes Ashley Barty in the live rankings on Wednesday to have a big shot of regaining her world no.1 status from next Monday.

Everything was smooth for the Japanese on Wednesday, especially after Barty was upset by Sofia Kenin in 3 sets. Therefore, Osaka had to beat the world no.74 Tatjana Maria, and that also happened quite easily after the German withdrew from the match after she lost the 1st set 6-2.

After Thursday, Naomi has 6332 points in the live rankings while Barty is “stuck” with 6256 points.

Will Naomi stay no.1?

Naomi still needs to work more to be the world no.1 from next week. In fact, Karolina Pliskova has still the chance to get to the top of the rankings. The Czech is currently in the 3rd round in Toronto, and she will be the new world no.1 if she wins the title or she is the runner up, and Naomi doesn’t conquer the Rogers Cup.

Another chance for Karolina to be no.1 next Monday is if she reaches the semifinal and Naomi loses her next match.

Naomi Osaka will take on Iga Swiatek in the 3rd round while Karolina Pliskova will play Anett Kontaveit.
