Godlike Federer reaches the Australian Open semi

Is it a rocket? Is it a plane? NO! It’s Roger Federer!

The Swiss sensation astonishes the crowd (and his opponent) playing a tennis out of this world in the Australian Open quarterfinal.

Roger had to face UFO Mischa Zverev that after beating John Isner and (especially) Andy Murray on paper he was capable of doing everything. But King Roger has already defeated the German 6-0 6-0 in their last match in Halle (2013), and he started the quarter in Melbourne with a stunning 5-0 lead in just 12 minutes. Eventually, the Swiss won the opener 6-1, but Mischa didn’t want to stay there just to have a nice picture with Federer, and he started to show to everybody that he defeated Murray not by chance. Eventually, in the second set, the German broke Roger to grab a 3-1 lead, but the world no.17 (yes… that’s Roger) was just too much to win the set 7-5. The exhibition (ehm… the match), also continued in the third set with Federer breaking Zverev in the 5th (3-2) and 7th (5-2) game before conquering the match 6-1 7-5 6-2. That was a fantastic display from both of them, and chapeau to a very entertaining Mischa Zverev.

The good start was key. FEDERER

In the post-match interview, Roger commented

“It was as good as it possibly could have gone. Pleased with the way I started the match. Right away I got off to a great start against him like I did against him a few years ago. After that, naturally, everything’s easier.”

I never thought it would be that good.

Roger confessed that he was surprised by his tournament (also because he had a horrible draw) to add

“I never thought it was going to be this good, and here I am in a semi against Stan. It couldn’t be cooler for the both of us. I felt I was always going to be dangerous on any given day in a match situation. But obviously as the tournament would progress, maybe I would fade away with energy, you know, that kind of stuff.”

The semi vs. Wawrinka

Roger will play his dear friend Stan Wawrinka for a place in the final. The head to head is 18-3 for Roger (8-0 on hard courts). Wawrinka has beaten him only on clay so far.

Game on!
