Arthur Fils, France’s top-ranked male tennis player, has officially withdrawn from Wimbledon 2025 due to a lingering back injury. The 21-year-old had been battling a stress fracture in his lower back, first sustained during the French Open, where he was forced to retire before his third-round match against Andrey Rublev.

Hopes for a swift recovery were dashed when Fils also pulled out of the Halle Open, a key warm-up event for Wimbledon. Despite initial optimism that he might return in time for the grass-court Grand Slam, medical advice has now ruled out his participation. French Tennis Federation doctor Vincent Guillard emphasized that rest remains the cornerstone of Fils’ treatment plan.

Fils had shown promising form earlier in the season and was seeded 15th for Wimbledon. His absence is a significant blow to the French contingent, especially after his impressive run to the fourth round at last year’s tournament. Veteran Fabio Fognini is expected to take his place in the draw.

Fils remains focused on a full recovery and a strong return for the hard-court season later this year. For now, the grass courts of SW19 will have to wait.
