Ten teams are fighting for eight coveted playoff berths in a high-stakes week of padel action as the hunt for the PPL City’s Cup intensifies. The level of play has increased from June 19 to 22, with each game moving teams closer to the October single-elimination event.

Jessica Castello and Virginia Riera recovered from losing the opening set to win 4-6, 6-2, [10-7] in the women’s doubles of a fiercely contested match between Miami Padel Club and the Toronto Polar Bears. Their tenacity changed the outcome and gave Miami crucial points. Agustin Tapia and Eduardo Alonso, the men’s doubles team, quickly established their dominance, defeating Mario Huete and Pincho Fernandez 6-2, 6-2.

Cancun Waves and Las Vegas Smash faced off in a contest that also featured pivotal moments. Alejandra Alonso and Marta Ortega defeated Marina Lobo and Sofia Saiz 6-2, 6-4, thanks to their steady play in the women’s match. In the meantime, Gonzalo Alfonso and Javier Barahona were defeated 6-2, 7-5 by Las Vegas’s Alex Ruiz and Franco Dal Bianco after a fiercely contested second set.

These early victories could be important in deciding who advances to the October playoffs, where each game will move teams closer to division and overall championship.
