Fantastic Dimitrov reaches the Australian Open quarters

On paper, Grigor Dimitrov didn’t have the hardest task of his tournament when he had to face the world no.117 Dennis Istomin, but the Uzbek has already surprised everyone after he eliminated Novak Djokovic in the second round. Therefore, the Bulgarian had to be very careful against Dennis that eventually won the first set 6-2, and he brought the 2nd set to the breaker. Eventually, after losing the tiebreak at 2, Istomin disappeared, and Dimitrov got the match in his hands. Finally, the Bulgarian won the encounter 2-6 7-6 (2) 6-2 6-1.

Credit to my team and my coach. DIMITROV

Grigor was elated with his result and the fact that he is back in a quarterfinal of a slam. The Bulgarian gave credit to his team and his news coach to say

“I haven’t done anything different in my off-season. I think I was just very, very composed, and I had a good structure with my team. We were focusing I think on the right things. I’ve learned a lot of new things about myself, I think, starting to work with Dani, my coach. It was just nice that he came at a good time, the end of last year. As soon as the off-season was on, it was just very simple. We had quite a few big talks. We discussed what we can do better, what we need to work on, what we need to improve, and how we want to be in 2017.

I started believing a little bit more in myself. I started the year very well, winning in Brisbane, beating good guys… I feel good right now. At the same time, I am also humbled by the results I have had so far. But now you enter into a different phase of the tournament, so I’m just focused on that.”

Next vs. Goffin

Grigor will play David Goffin for a place in the semi-final. The head to head is 1-0 for Dimitrov that has defeated Goffin in the US Open 3rd round in 2014 0-6 6-3 6-4 6-1.
