Alexander Bublik explains how he managed to defeat World No.1 Jannik Sinner with confidence and composure

Alexander Bublik pulled off a stunning upset at the Terra Wortmann Open in Halle, defeating World No.1 Jannik Sinner 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in a gripping Round of 16 clash. The Kazakh player, known for his unpredictable flair and booming serve, turned the tide after a slow start, delivering one of the most focused performances of his career.

“I know what I’m capable of,” Bublik said after the match, his words echoing the self-belief that fueled his comeback. “When I’m playing my game, I can challenge anyone.”

Sinner, who had beaten Bublik just weeks earlier at Roland Garros, looked in control early on, taking the first set with ease. But Bublik responded with a barrage of aces and fearless shot-making, saving eight of nine break points and converting two of his own. His 36 winners, including 15 aces, kept the Italian on the defensive for much of the second and third sets.

The win snapped Sinner’s 66-match winning streak against players ranked outside the top 20 and marked Bublik’s second victory over the Italian in Halle in three years. It also propelled him into the quarterfinals, where he will face Czech seventh seed Tomas Machac.
