Dimitrov impresses in late win against Gasquet

Grigor Dimitrov puts on a very solid display in the 3rd round of the Australia Open to defeat Richard Gasquet 6-3 6-2 6-4. Even if this encounter made history as it was the latest starting match of the Open (11.58pm), the Bulgarian made it sure that by 2 am everything was put to sleep. This was probably appreciated by some fans and local commentators that were reminded about the famous 5-sets epic that Hewitt won against Baghdatis in 2008 that ended at 4.34am.

Late hour was not an issue. DIMITROV

After the match, Grigor joked about the time to say

“Lately I’ve been struggling with my sleeping, and I’ve been going to bed so late, but today it’s 2 am and I’m feeling great. Big thanks to the crowd, for sure. You guys are amazing; it’s never easy to stay up so late for us.

I’ve been feeling good this past week, so I’m just happy to be on court. That was my first win on that court, so I’m embracing it as much as possible. I think I’m going to hit the ice bath first before I do whatever else. It will take a while to fall asleep, so I might go practice again.”

Next vs. Istomin

Grigor will play Djokovic’s conqueror, Dennis Istomin, in the 4th round. The head to head is 1-0 for the Bulgarian that should have no problems to beat Dennis, but we said the same about Djokovic…

Game on!
