Roger Federer was expected to make a meal of Noah Rubin, but eventually, things got a bit more differently. Even if Roger won the encounter in straight sets, he was able to break Noah in the first set only at the very end, and he had to save a couple of set points before winning the third set. Finally, Roger won 7-5 6-3 7-6 (3).

I didn’t know him. FEDERER

Roger was happier with this match than the previous one regarding his focus, but he conceded that he struggled a bit too much also in this.

The Swiss commented

“It was a difficult first set; tricky third set, of course. I had to save a couple of set points. I know it could have gone differently. I think I was a bit more consistent than in the first match against Melzer, where I ended up losing that second set after leading. I think I had a little bit better concentration.

I didn’t know much about Noah Rubin going in except the info I got from my coaches. I was prepared; I was ready to battle. I was able to get the win, so I’m very happy.”

Next Berdych

Roger will have an extremely tough 3rd round against Thomas Berdych. The head to head is 16-6 for the Swiss that has won the last five contests against the Czech.
