Tatjana Maria completed a remarkable run at the Queen’s Club Championships by defeating eighth seed Amanda Anisimova 6-3, 6-4 to become the first woman to win a title at the event since 1973. The 37-year-old German, who entered the tournament as a qualifier, captured the biggest title of her career on the grass courts of the Andy Murray Arena.

Maria’s path to the final was nothing short of extraordinary. She came into the tournament on a nine-match losing streak and had to battle through two rounds of qualifying just to reach the main draw. Once there, she stunned a series of top-ranked opponents, including sixth seed Karolina Muchova, fourth seed Elena Rybakina, and reigning Australian Open champion Madison Keys.

In the final, Maria’s slice-heavy game and tactical precision proved too much for Anisimova. She broke early in both sets and held her nerve in the closing stages, sealing victory in just under 90 minutes. The win marked her fourth career singles title and her second on grass, following her triumph in Mallorca in 2018.

Maria, who has taken two maternity breaks during her career, celebrated the win with her husband and coach Charles-Édouard and their two daughters, Charlotte and Cecilia, who watched courtside. Her victory also makes her the oldest WTA 500 champion since Serena Williams won in Auckland in 2020 at age 38.

The Queen’s Club had not hosted a women’s tournament since 1973, when Olga Morozova lifted the trophy. Maria’s triumph not only ends that 52-year wait but also signals a new chapter for the historic venue. With Wimbledon just around the corner, the German’s resurgence on grass could make her a dangerous contender once again.
