Sock triumphs in Auckland

Jack Sock is poised to have a fantastic 2017. After playing a brilliant Hopman Cup where he had to bow only to Richard Gasquet in the final 6-3 5-7 7-66 after he trashed Kyrgios 6-2 6-2, the American has won his second career title in Auckland after he defeated Joao Sousa 6-3 5-7 6-3 in the final.

Jack had to dig deep against the Portuguese after he was one break down in the decider (1-2). Eventually, the American found the solution to grab 5 of the following six games and win the tournament.

It feels really good

“Any time you can take a title it feels really good. I’ve had it once before, (Houston 2015) I’ve had chances and lost in a few finals, but winning the whole tournament and going through a whole week without being beaten, is a massive confidence booster, not only in the short term but right after, but for the year.”

Jack is currently ranked no.23, just a few points behind John Isner (no.19). After this win, he will be closer and closer to become the American no.1

Sock will now head to Melbourne where he will face Herbert in the opener with a new trophy and a lot of confidence in his bag.
