Muller wins his maiden title at 33

Before today, Gilles Muller was arguably the strongest player around not to have won a single ATP title. Muller has finally conquered his first tournament at 33 years of age after he defeated Dan Evans 7-6 (5) 6-2 in the Sydney final.

What a night!

During the ceremony, Gilles broke down, and he was in tears  to comment

“It just means so much to win for the first time in front of my boys and my wife. It’s been a great ride so far … what a night.”

This was Muller’s 6th final; Gilles had to endure a heartbreaking defeat in Newport last year when he lost the final against Karlovic 6-7(2) 7-6(5) 7-6(12) after he couldn’t convert three match points.

Gilles will play Taylor Fritz in the Australian Open first round. Probably he doesn’t care much about that right now. Great Stuff!
