MONTREAL. Shapovalov inspired from Nadal’s win in 2017

Shapovalov confesses that he loves to remember when he defeated the Spanish legend when he was just 17.

Nadal Shapovalov

Denis Shapovalov is not having the best moment of his young career.

After reaching the semifinal in Miami, the 19-year-old lost 10 of his last 12 matches (and the last 5). That is always depressing for a pro-player especially when he or she has this record after traveling all over the world.

When Denis beat Rafa

Denis is currently in Canada where he will kick start his campaign on Monday. One of the fondest memories of his young career for the Canadian was when he defeated Rafael Nadal back in 2017 to reach the semifinal in Montreal a the Rogers Cup when he was just 17. During a recent interview, Denis commented:

“I occasionally go back to watch highlights of that match  (vs. Nadal) when I need a little inspiration, motivation, self-belief and look the way I was so fearless. I like to take myself back there.”
