Lorenzo Musetti’s French Open journey came to an unfortunate end as he was forced to retire in the semifinal against Carlos Alcaraz due to a left thigh injury. The Italian had started strong, winning the first set 6-4 and pushing Alcaraz to a tiebreak in the second before the Spaniard took control.

After the match, Musetti expressed his disappointment but also acknowledged the progress he has made. “Really sad and disappointed… I felt closer to Alcaraz,” he said, highlighting the improvements in his game compared to previous encounters with the world No. 2.

Musetti had been enjoying an impressive clay season, reaching the semifinals in Monte Carlo, Madrid, and Rome. His performance at Roland-Garros further cemented his status as one of the most promising young players on the tour.

Despite the setback, Musetti remains optimistic about his future. He will undergo medical evaluations to determine the extent of his injury, but his focus remains on continuing his development and competing at the highest level. His next scheduled tournament is the Queen’s Club Championships, though his participation will depend on his recovery.

Alcaraz, who advanced to his second French Open final, praised Musetti’s efforts and wished him a speedy recovery. The Italian’s performance in Paris has shown that he is capable of challenging the best, and he will look to build on this experience in the coming months.
