The Czech Republic is definitely not struggling in the WTA circuit as another player wins a title. World no.52 Katerina Siniakova defeats Alison Riske 6-3 6-4 to claim her maiden title.
The 20-year-old had to battle hard in the first set to recover a 1-2 deficit (1 break down) to win four consecutive games and grab a 5-2 lead before winning the opening set. In the second set, things were similar after the Czech won 4 consecutive games to convert a 0-1 deficit into a 4-1 lead.
A great start of the year. SINIAKOVA
During the ceremony, Katerina commented
“It’s been a great week for me, and I’m so glad that I won this time because this match was tough; I didn’t play my best, but I’m really happy that I did it.
It’s a great start to the year for me. I hope my performance continues to go up and get better.”
