Federer – Tipsarevic will be the next semifinal of this controversial edition of the Mutua Madrilena Open

Roger had to take a break in each set to defeat the fighting Spaniard. Once again the Swiss Maestro showed he is capable to adapt to every situation on every surface.
Federer is playing a really good tennis on the blue clay using all his incredible tennis variations (look at the Hot Shot in the video above). His service games were once again spotless. Roger blasted 7 aces, put 78% of his first service in to win 86% points on his 1st serve and 90% on the second. He did notconcede a breakpoint to Ferrer.
David on the other side was struggling much more to face 8 break points and to concede 2 breaks in each set. In 10 service games played, he double faulted 7 times.. too much against the Swiss.
Talking about his chances of winning the tournament, Federer said “Maybe. I have won it in the past so you figure as a player you can do it again. But all the other guys are highly ranked as well and can definitely run through the next couple of rounds so I am aware of that too,” the Swiss added. “I haven’t played Janko that often so I don’t quite know his game that well, like I know David’s game for instance or Novak’s or Rafa’s. We’ll see how that goes first and I hope I have a shot at the title on Sunday but obviously my focus is on Tipsarevic right now,” said Federer.

Another disaster waiting to happen. Novak has been very vocal about the blue clay and also in this match he was clearly not at ease. Conversely, Janko has been very good in adapting to the surface to upset his fellow countryman in straight sets.
Janko was very solid in his tennis. He won the opener at the tiebreak and he was able to capitalize on the only break he achieved in the second set. The seed nr.7 was also very effective in defending all the 7 break points conceded to Nole.
Federer leads 4-0 in head to head matches with Janko and he is definately the favourite to get to the final.
