Kyrgios battles with knee injury

After one year when Nick Kyrgios and Daria Gavrilova won the Hopman Cup, things went south for the Australian team in Perth. Nick and Daria also lost this second tie against the Czech Republic to dash any hope to qualify for the final.

Kyrgios had a not-so-solid win against world no.75 Adam Pavlasek (7-5 6-4). Then Gavrilova lost against Lucie Hradecka  4-6 6-4 6-4. Finally, The Australian team lost the decisive rubber in mixed doubles 3-4 (1) 4-3 (1) 4-2  (FAST 4 format).

About Nick’s injury

The big news is that Kyrgios is suffering from a his left knee injury that apparently occurred when playing basketball. During a recent interview, Nick added

“I just had a little bit of knee pain the last couple of days. It has actually been troubling me for the past couple of weeks … Obviously, the first match back, a couple of weeks ago, was tough, and I am just getting used to it again. But hopefully it gets warm soon, and it will ease off.”

The big question mark will be Kyrgios’ fitness for the Australian Open. Nothing new.
