Volvo Car Malaysia has officially announced that the Volvo Padel Open will return in 2025 with enhanced match formats, additional categories, and a stronger focus on emerging players. The event aims to support Malaysia’s rapidly growing padel community and solidify its standing as the largest padel tournament in the nation.
Up to 320 players are expected to attend the event, ranging from beginners who are new to the sport to seasoned enthusiasts who have competed in regional circuits. From June 21 until the grand finals on July 27, it will happen every weekend.
The competition this year is a significant improvement over the inaugural one and demonstrates Volvo’s continued support of padel as a fast-paced, socially active sport. The company claims that Padel is a natural extension of its basic values of community, innovation, wellness, and inclusivity.
Patricia Yaw, Director of Marketing Operations and Public Relations at Volvo Car Malaysia, highlighted that the Volvo name has a strong association with padel in Malaysia. She said the organization hopes to boost the impact of this year’s competition by offering new match styles, enticing awards, and personalized experiences to both new and experienced participants. Other initiatives include greater court time and coaching clinics given by professionals, particularly for new players who wish to meet other padel players and develop their skills.
Since its inception in the 1960s, padel has become the fastest-growing sport in the world, with over 25 million players in 110 countries. As a doubles sport, its unique blend of fast-paced, friendly gameplay and emphasis on collaboration has helped it gain popularity in Malaysia.
Joy Division Padel will be an official venue partner for the 2025 Volvo Padel Open for the first time, joining returning club partners Padelground and PadelKu. Participants may look forward to additional benefits like complimentary pre-tournament coaching sessions, a Volvo-branded uniform, first-class access to the finals, and exclusive hospitality experiences.
Sean U’ren-Szeto, general manager of Joy Division Padel, was thrilled to be collaborating with the competition. Highlighting the exceptional talent among Malaysian players who have trained at the club and competed in regional tournaments, he underlined the need of giving local players access to higher levels of competition and skill development.
According to Thomas Ryard, co-director of Padelground, the sport’s appeal lies in its lively and welcoming environment. He credited the Volvo Padel Open with boosting participation and interest, particularly among trend-setters, fitness fanatics, and social players. He continued by saying that rather than points, the real measures of padel’s success are the joy and friendship it creates among its participants.
According to Charl Hermus Marais, Operations Director at PadelKu, the competition this year saw a marked improvement in the level of play among Malaysian contestants. In order to ensure that players are prepared for tournament-level play and to raise the bar for competition, PadelKu has coaching teams operating in three locations, including the recently opened Megah club in Petaling Jaya.
The registration period for the Volvo Padel 2025 will open on June 3 and run through July 3, or sooner if all available player seats are filled. As the sport continues to grow in popularity across the nation, Volvo’s sponsorship ensures that padel will remain a skill-based game that also celebrates healthy competition and community spirit.
