Rusty Serena wins opener in Auckland

Even if Serena Williams wins her first match of the season in just 75 minutes, given her usual standards, she didn’t impress. The American defeated world no. 69 Pauline Parmentier 6-3 6-4 after recovering from a 1-3 deficit and showing some rust.

I was struggling with the wind. SERENA

After the match, Serena conceded that she was having problems with playing in the wind and with the fact that she wasn’t playing a tournament for long (US Open). The world no.2  commented

“I definitely felt that rust, but mentally I knew how to get it back and get in there. But I guess in the wind you really have to be ready to move your feet, so I went to what my coach told me and I was like ‘you know how to play in the wind, you’ve done it many times before,’ so I just tried to adjust to it.”

Next vs. Brengle

Serena will face the world no. 72 Madison Brengle in the next round. They played each other only once in the past, and that was when Serena defeated Madison 6-0 6-1 in Madrid 2015. Another trash might be on its way for Serena.
