Ana Ivanovic has been one of the most admired and followed tennis players of the last decade. The Serbian Beauty has won 15 titles, 1 slam (the French Open in 2008), she was the runner-up at the Roland Garros in 2007 and the Australian Open in 2008. Ana has spent 12 weeks as world no.1.
During the last few years Ivanovic has been struggling with her physical condition, and after a great 2014 when she collected 4 titles, she was unable to win a single tournament in the following 2 years.
Besides not being able to compete at her best (she is currently world no.63), Ana has married Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger earlier this year, and that was probably the decisive factor that prompted her retirement.
Comments from Ivanovic
Ana released the following statement
“I can only play if it is up to my own high standards. I can no longer do that, so it is time to move on. It has been a difficult decision, but I have so much to celebrate
I began dreaming about playing tennis when I was five and saw Monica Seles playing on TV. I have seen heights I never dreamt of achieving.”
She will be missed… a lot!

Ana Ivanovic will go down as one of the nicest human beings to ever play professional tennis. And that counts for a heck of a lot.

Ana Ivanovic, like Petra Kvitova, seems universally liked in the locker room. Another one of whom I’ve not heard a bad word uttered.
