If you have a look at Sam Groth, you will not mess with him. The Australian giant is an extremely nice person, but his body is rather intimidating. Unfortunately, Sam’s appearance didn’t prevent him from receiving some horrible death threats.
They threatened me, my family and my girlfriend. GROTH
During an interview with The Weekend Australian, Sam commented
“I have taken it to the ATP and other people because there are times this year where it has got to the stage where it is not acceptable. We are playing a sport. It is your life,” he said.
“The amount of abuse I have copped… you have never seen anything like it. I get death threats against me, death threats against my family, I get death threats against my girlfriend, she gets death threats and abuse.
“For me, personally, I can handle copping it, can sort of laugh it off, but when they start to get personal towards my girlfriend and my family, that is when I think they are taking things too far.”
“I loved having a relationship with people on social media and it is a great way to interact. I try to make everything on there as positive as I can. But I think sometimes the people you get abuse from are always gamblers who have lost money on you, and I don’t think they understand what you are going through.
“They may be going nuts at you because they have lost $50, but on court, especially for me this year, I lost a lot of close matches and way more value than their $50.”
