Matteo Berrettini has officially withdrawn from Roland Garros, continuing a streak of unfortunate setbacks that have kept him from competing in the tournament since 2021. The Italian player, who recently retired in tears during his match against Casper Ruud at the Internazionali d’Italia, has been struggling with persistent abdominal issues.

His last appearance at the French Open was in 2021, when he reached the quarterfinals before falling to Novak Djokovic. Since then, injuries have repeatedly disrupted his clay-court seasons, forcing him to miss one of the sport’s most prestigious events.

Berrettini’s withdrawal comes after similar struggles in Madrid, where he was forced to retire against Jack Draper due to the same physical concerns. Despite efforts to recover, his condition has not improved enough to allow him to compete in Paris.

The Italian remains focused on his rehabilitation, with hopes of returning to full fitness in time for the grass-court season. His next target is Wimbledon, where he previously reached the final in 2021, showcasing his strength on the surface.
