Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic have spent years competing against each other on the tennis court, but their recent collaboration saw Murray take on the role of coach for the Serbian star. While their time working together was filled with valuable insights and intense training sessions, Murray couldn’t help but add a bit of humor when reflecting on their partnership.

For six months, the British tennis star supported Djokovic, offering strategic advice and helping him navigate the challenges of the season. Though the experience was rewarding, Murray was quick to point out one aspect he was happy to leave behind—the food. Known for his strict approach to diet and fitness, Djokovic frequently encouraged Murray to embrace plant-based eating, a suggestion the Scotsman found less than appealing.

“It’s been a great adventure. If there’s one thing I won’t miss, it’s the food. He was always trying to get me to eat vegan. I don’t want air and chickpea sandwiches for every meal!” Murray joked, highlighting the dietary differences between them.

Despite their contrasting views on nutrition, their partnership was built on mutual respect and a shared commitment to the sport. Djokovic praised Murray’s deep understanding of tennis, acknowledging the valuable input he brought as a coach. Murray, in turn, appreciated the experience and the chance to work with his former rival in a new capacity.

As Murray moves on from his coaching stint, he takes with him plenty of lessons and memories from his time alongside Djokovic. While their time together may have been short-lived, it added another entertaining chapter to the dynamic history between two of tennis’s greatest competitors. And if nothing else, Murray is happy to return to meals that don’t involve chickpeas at every turn.
