Azarenka, Li Na, Radwanska, Stosur advance to the quarters

No doubt about that, the upset of the day was Kvitova

KVITOVA – HRADECKA 6 4 6-3
It took only 71 minutes for the world nr. 105 to defeat her compatriote and the defending champion Petra Kvitova.

The world nr.4 was never  into the game to be broken 5 times. Her serve didn’t bite at all to commit 8 double faults (in 10 service games) and to lose 75% of her points on her second serve.

Hradecka will play Makarova in the third round (head to head 1-0 for Makarova)

AZARENKA – IVANOVIC 6-4 6-4
The match was a close one. The testimony is that the overall points were only 71-66 for the world nr.1.

Vika was also struggling a bit with her service (7 double faults) and had to cope with a combative opponent (Ana desperately wants to go back to his past tennis levels).  The difference was that the Belorussian was more effective in playing the decisive points to convert more break points.

LI – KERBER 7-5 6-4

It was a very good game for the 2011 French Open Champion. The Chinese managed to play a solid match to concede only a break.

Li Na will play Azarenka in the quarters. Head to Head: Li leads 4-3

STOSUR – CETKOVSKA 6-3 6-2

Sam had an easy one, but she was still not very convicing on her service games. She was able to save 7 out of 8 break points, but this may not work with top ranked players in the next rounds. On the other side she was very good in converting 4 out of 5 break points.

Sam will play either Makarova or Hradecka in the quarters.

RADWANSKA – ERRANI 6-0 6-1

Embarassing stuff at the Manolo Santana. Sara was coming from a 16 matches winning streak (and 3 straight titles). But Radwanska was just another level. It took only 65 minutes (and 7 aces) for the Pole to crash the Italian. Errani managed to avoid the double 6-0 just at the end of the match to finally win a game when she was 5-0 down.

Agnieszka will play another Italian (Roberta Vinci) in the third round. Head to head: Radwanska 3-0 up (twice on clay in Rome)
