Nadal may skip 1 tournament before the US Open for the benefit of Federer and Djokovic

Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer may take advantage from this situation to further their positions in the rankings.

Rafael Nadal is currently in Mallorca where he is promoting the new Rafa Nadal Open Challenger that will be played at his Academy.

The Spanish sensation has recovered a fantastic form after the disappointment of not going deep in the tournaments in the first part of the clay-court season. Rafa is feeling in great shape and ready to go to Canada to complete his training and be ready for the upcoming Rogers Cup where he will defend his title in Montreal.

Nadal’s schedules until the US Open

The world no.2 is scheduled to play in Montreal and Cincinnati before competing at the US Open. Last year, Rafa decided not to play in Cincinnati after the Rogers Cup to rest his body ahead of the last slam of the season. This may happen again this season and it makes sense also for the fact that Cincinnati is played in fast conditions that are not entirely suitable for the King of Clay.

Nadal on why he may not play in Cincinnati

During the presentation of the upcoming Rafa Nadal Open Challenger, the Spaniard commented

“I think I am in a good physical shape, I am strong, ready to fly to Canada and go there in the next days in order to complete my training. After Wimbledon, I felt some tiredness and I took a rest but now I am training well on hard courts.”

Talking about the chances that he will play in Cincinnati this year, Rafa commented

“It depends on what happens in Montreal. What’s sure is that I want to head into the US Open being well prepared.”

Federer, Djokovic to take advantage of this

If Rafa will not compete in the Cincinnati Masters, Federer and Djokovic will be the obvious favorites. They were the finalists last year when the Serbian defeated Roger 6-4 6-4 and the Swiss has won the event on 7 occasions.
