Murray may play singles in Cincinnati and the US Open to threat Federer, Nadal, Djokovic’s dominance

Murray likely to return playing singles in the US Open

Andy Murray’s anticipated return could be with The Cincinnati Masters. The thirty-two-year-old Briton revealed this that he might swing back in action, in just eleven days.

In the endeavour of saving his career and curing the debilitating problem of “Birmingham’s hip”, he had to take a first-round emotional exit during The Australian Open. After which, there was an insertion of a metal cap in his left-side femur. After having successfully recuperated, he returned to action but only in the doubles competition.

Andy affirmed that it is “pretty unlikely” for him to resume singles with the US Open that begins on August 26.

Will Murray play singles now?

However, ahead of The Citi Open doubles, he admitted in a news conference, that playing the singles again is closer than he thinks and he is really hoping it.

He said in an interview that: “The best-case scenario probably would be Cincinnati. And then if I wasn’t able to play in Cincinnati, there’s a good chance I would probably wait until after the US Open in New York, because I wouldn’t want my first tournament, either, to be playing best-of-five”.

In June, after winning The Queen’s doubles title with Lopez, he told the interviewers that: “What I’m doing here is, for the most part, I’m going to practice singles and play doubles to compete, and then just each week I’m just going to see.

Either way, he has intentions to keep training for the singles and playing the doubles, throughout the season of half-court, considering he is content with both his game and hip, but, aspires to upgrade his overall fitness.

He said: “In terms of how I’m moving and feeling and pulling up the next day from these practices, I’m delighted with where I’m at. I think I’m quite close. “If I keep progressing and feel good in three weeks then I’ll play singles as soon as I’m ready”.

The Scotsman also added further that: “It’s to get to where I want to get to. I’ll need to play matches and get a little bit more work done in the gym on my cardio”.

If Murray does not resume with The Cincinnati Masters singles, then he will play in Montreal with Feliciano Lopez.
