MATCH FIXING. 34 arrested in Spain

Terrible stuff in Spain: 34 people have been arrested for match-fixing.

What happened?

Six players and two people based in Seville and La Coruna have been caught fixing matches in at least 17 tournaments at futures and challenger level.

The identity of the players hasn’t also been disclosed because it involved not well-known people (most of the players were ranked outside the top1000.

The police intervened after a tip from the Tennis Integrity Unit that is an organization in charge of fighting these cheaters and funded by the ITF, the ATP, and the WTA.

Apparently, the network was quite vast, and the players themselves were scammed as they were often offered 500 Eur to lose their matches to receive just 50.

That’s absolutely awful.
