Juan Martin Del Potro won an incredible match against Marin Cilic after the comeback from a 2-sets-down deficit. Apparently, that deficit wasn’t the only problem for the Argentine that was also unable to blast his backhand because of his difficulties with the wrist and, even worse, he broke his little finger on his left hand in the 5th set.
I broke my finger
During an interview, Delpo revealed
“I broke it in the fifth set but it doesn’t matter, it was all about winning. This is Davis Cup. It happened when I tried to catch a ball in the fifth set,”
The match was completely in Cilic’s hands because I could not hurt with my backhand. In the third set, the match turned around, and he started to feel tired, it was all in. I played better starting to use variety.
People supported me a lot, I felt it, and it helped me to be more relaxed. I felt ready to convert my chances, I have always been positive. Emotionally it was one of the most important matches in my life. I will remember it forever.”
