Casper Ruud secured his first Masters 1000 title at the Madrid Open, marking a significant milestone in his career. After defeating Jack Draper in a hard-fought final, the Norwegian expressed a whirlwind of emotions, describing his victory as a mix of relief, happiness, and pure joy.

Ruud had come close to winning major titles in the past but had fallen short in previous Masters 1000 finals. His triumph in Madrid was the result of perseverance and dedication, proving that his hard work had finally paid off.

These were his words:

“It’s a mix of relief, happiness, and pure joy. Based on the past few years I’ve spent on the circuit, I know how challenging it is to perform well in the most important tournaments, and I’ve never been able to cross the finish line as a champion, but today I did it here in Madrid, so extremely happy and proud, of course, to have been able to stay focused throughout the tournament. After losing the second set and the momentum shifting, I regrouped and played, particularly pleased with the last match I played and proud of finishing it off.”

Reflecting on his journey, Ruud acknowledged the challenges he faced throughout the season. He emphasized the importance of staying patient and trusting the process, knowing that setbacks often lead to greater success.
