Spanish tennis star Paula Badosa has been forced to withdraw from the Madrid Open due to a persistent back injury. The world number nine announced her decision on Friday, just hours before she was set to play her opening match at the tournament.

Badosa, who has been struggling with the injury for months, expressed her disappointment at missing the chance to compete in front of her home crowd. She revealed that the issue has significantly impacted her daily life, making even simple movements difficult. Despite undergoing treatment and showing signs of improvement, she was not ready to return to full competition.

The injury had already caused Badosa to miss several tournaments earlier in the season, including Indian Wells. She last competed in Miami, where she reached the round of 16 before withdrawing. Her absence from Madrid is another setback in her efforts to regain top form.
