Kontinen, Peers win the World Tour final at the photo finish

Henry and John beat Klaasen and Ram in 3 sets. VIDEO

Henri Kontinen and John Peers are the new World Tour Finals’ champions. The duo had to dig deep in the final against Raven Klaasen and Rajeev Ram to win 2-6 6-1 10-8.

The match was pretty tense with Kontinen and Peers dropping the first set after losing five consecutive games (from 2-1 to 2-6). The encounter was completely different in the second set when Henry and John had a fantastic start to lead 5-0 before bringing the final to the decider (alias the super tiebreak). Eventually, everything was decided in the last two points (the tiebreak was on an 8-all scoreline),

It hasn’t sunk in. PEERS

After the match, John commented

“To be honest, it probably actually hasn’t sunk in. It will hopefully sink in tomorrow once I get a flight back home. When I start to think what we’ve achieved probably in the last month, it’s been a great thing for both of us. It just feels really good to know all the hard work we kept putting in time and time again, even if we felt good or bad, that it’s all starting to pay off, and we can contest for the big tournaments all the time.”

Peers and Kontinen got a nice check of $455,000 to be split, and they will be ranked no.4 in the rankings after receiving 1,500 points. That was a nice week!
