Murray saves 1 MP to win epic against Raonic

That couldn’t be closer than that!

Andy Murray beats Milos Raonic 5-7 7-6 (5) 7-6 (9) in a 3 hours and 38 minutes’ thriller. The world no.1 was one set and one break down (5-7 1-2) to find a crucial break in the 4th game of the second set (at love!) and win the following breaker. Things got immensely tense in the decider when Andy failed to serve out the encounter twice when he was leading 5-4 and 6-5 to save a match point when he was 8-9 down in the tiebreak. Eventually, the Brit won this marathon after converting his 4th match point.

The difference between the two wasn’t much with Murray winning 138 points vs. Raonic’s 136.

I do not know how I will feel tomorrow. MURRAY

Andy was happy with the win, but he was aware that a match lasting more than 3 hours and a half could have a devasting impact on the final if played the day after. The Brit commented

“I don’t know how I’ll feel tomorrow. Obviously, I’m tired just now because it was a really hard match. It wasn’t just that it was physically hard, it was mentally a tough match, too. It was stressful. I was quite far behind in the second set, a set, and a breakdown managed to turn it round. Then it was back and forth in the third set.”

The final vs. Djokovic

Andy will play Novak Djokovic in the final for the title and the year-end world no.1 rank. The head to head is 24-10 for the Serb that has won 13 of the last 15 matches, and he leads Murray 4-0 on indoor hard courts.

Giving the circumstances, it will be a tough one to win for Murray also because Djokovic spent just 69 minutes on court in the semifinal against Nishikori.
