Superb Basilashvili defends his title at the German Tennis Championships

Nikoloz Basilashvili ousts Andrey Rublev 7-5 4-6 6-3 in the final in Hamburg on Sunday.

1st set.

The Georgean won the set after recovering from 1 break down. In fact, after conceding his serve in the 3rd (1-2) game, Basilashvili broke back in the 6th (3-3) and in the 12th (7-5) game before winning the set 7-5.

2nd set.

Both players managed to hold their serve for the entire set. The only difference was just 1 break that Andrey conquered in the 7th game (4-3) before winning the set (6-4).

3rd set.

Basilashvili didn’t want to give any chance to the opposition at the beginning of the set after breaking Rublev in the 2nd game (2-0). Notwithstanding, the set was not over yet and there was more work to do for Nikoloz to win the set as Andrey found the way to break back in the 3rd (1-2) game. The Georgean kept his focus to break the Russian in the 4th (3-1) game before winning the set (6-3).

At the end of the match, the Georgean scored 105 points vs. the Russian’s 95 points.

The Georgean served very well to win 81% of the points (43/53) behind his first serve. Nonetheless he won only 45% points (17/38) on his second serve. Basilashvili won this match even if he was not so effective in converting his break points as he converted only 27% (4/15). On the other side, Rublev was pretty focused in converting 60% of the break points that he procured points (3/5). Notwithstanding, that was not enough to win the match.

After this contest, the head to head between Basilashvili and Rublev is 2-0 for Nikoloz.
