Playing in front of an increasingly packed crowd, Peers and Kontinen who were clear underdogs, tightened up their game to outplay their opponents in the third set championship tiebreak.

Peers and Kontinen are clearly still getting to know each other’s game, and communication was often an issue as Kontinen “left” three balls which were called in and on occasion found themselves scrambling to cover ground.

However, in the second set, they managed to capitalize on getting more first serves in with Kontinen formidable at the net.

Mahut and Herbert were left behind in the decisive tiebreak, with Herbert struggling on serve with a number of double faults at crucial times.

The final score was 6-7 (5) 6-4 10-4. With their win they ensure that Jamie Murray and Peers will end the year as world no.1.
